NEW YORK (AP) — A federal appeals court on Wednesday gave Argentina breathing room in its billion-dollar debt showdown, indefinitely suspending a lower court judge's ruling that threatened to push the country into default.

Two sentenced in 2010 slaying of mother of four

Two men were sentenced in Suffolk Superior Court today for the murder of a young mother of four and the shooting of another man in 2010, the Suffolk district attorney's office said. Kadeem Foreman, 23, of Dorchester was given the mandatory life in prison sentence for the second-degree murder of Toneika Jones, 24, prosecutors said. Foreman will be eligible for parole in 15 years.

State Police kick off their Toys for Tots drive

Massachusetts State Police today launched their annual effort to boost the US Marine Corps' "Toys for Tots" drive, a program that gives gifts to children of families in need during the holiday season. For the past 28 years, State Police have assisted the Marine Corps with the drive, which has been running nationally since 1947. New, unwrapped, non-violent toys can be dropped off at any State Police barracks through Dec. 17, State Police spokesman David Procopio said.

40 hypothermic sea turtles rescued on Cape Cod

Forty hypothermic sea turtles found on Cape Cod are being taken to the New England Aquarium's care center in Quincy to be warmed up, the aquarium said today. The endangered reptiles, mostly large loggerheads and green sea turtles, have been pouring in over the past three days, aquarium spokesman Tony LaCasse said in a statement. Sea turtles often become stranded from early November through December, so volunteers from the Massachusetts Audubon Sanctuary at Wellfleet Bay stake out the coasts each year in order to save them.
