Group: Greyhounds suffered injuries at Iowa tracks

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Greyhounds suffered 175 injuries while racing at Iowa's two racetracks between January 2011 and July 2012, and 24 injured dogs had to be euthanized, according to a report from a national greyhound protection organization.

Autopsy on Swansea woman inconclusive

Post-holiday traffic begins to build on Massachusetts Turnpike

By mid-afternoon today, post-Thanksgiving travelers had become entangled in heavy traffic the length of the Massachusetts Turnpike, said State Police. Two minor vehicle crashes near on the Mass Pike near Exit 11A in the Westborough area occurred around 2:40 p.m., said David Procopio, a spokesman for the State Police. The crashes, which have been cleared, caused lengthy backups, he said, but heavy traffic should be expected for the remainder of the day.

Beverly police search for fugitive New Hampshire couple; arrest another man on unrelated charges

Acting on information that turned out to be wrong, police searched a Beverly home Saturday afternoon for the New Hampshire couple wanted for abusing a 3-year-old, police said. New Hampshire police have been searching for Jessica Linscott, 23, and her boyfriend, Roland Dow, 27, since Nov. 14, when the couple dropped Linscott's severely injured 3-year-old son off at Exeter Hospital and disappeared. The child's wrists and fingers were burned, he had suffered a traumatic brain injury, and his seizures were not being properly treated.
