| 'I stole from a 9-year-old': Court-ordered shaming Posted: 13 Nov 2012 02:06 PM PST A woman caught on camera driving on a sidewalk to pass a Cleveland school bus was ordered this week to hold a sign at the intersection reading, "Only an idiot would drive on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus." It was the latest example of creative, and sometimes controversial, sentences handed out by judges to publicly shame offenders. Some other examples from around the country: |

| Man faces charges in Chelsea after allegedly swallowing balloons or condoms containing heroin Posted: 13 Nov 2012 10:11 AM PST A Venezuelan man who had allegedly swallowed balloons or condoms filled with heroin ended up in the hospital — and in trouble with the law, Chelsea police said. Police received a call from the Wyndham Boston Chelsea Hotel Sunday afternoon for a possible overdose in a room that was supposed to have been vacated that day, said Chelsea Police Captain Keith Houghton. |

| Middlesex district attorney to probe fatal police shooting in Marlborough Posted: 13 Nov 2012 10:10 AM PST Middlesex County prosecutors say they're investigating the shooting of a 22-year-old man by a Marlborough police officer Monday night. Bryce Coutinho was killed in the confrontation, which happened after police were called to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Meadowbrook Road. Police responded to the residence at approximately 8 p.m. Monday. They were called to assist in the removal of an unwanted person from the residence, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone's office said in a statement. |

This week, Administration and Finance Secretary Jay Gonzalez formally notified top lawmakers that the administration wants to create a $30 million reserve account to pay for Dookhan-related expenses through February. |
