French Alps avalanche kills 9 on Mont Blanc Posted: 13 Jul 2012 12:00 AM PDT The Mont Blanc avalanche leaves nine climbers injured. An official says a slab of snow and ice nearly 16 inches thick came loose in the deadly disaster. PARIS — Nine people died when an avalanche swept down a mountain in the French Alps early Thursday and struck a group of two dozen European climbers. At least nine members of the party were injured and flown by helicopter to a hospital. |
