Quinn signs super PAC campaign finance law Posted: 06 Jul 2012 04:55 PM PDT Pat Quinn signed a bill Friday that lifts the state's campaign contribution limits to candidates once big money starts flowing into a state or local political contest, a move one watchdog group decried as effectively ending limits in any major race. |

Obama administration repeats same jobs line — for the 30th month Posted: 06 Jul 2012 10:13 AM PDT When the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced the nation's latest national employment figures Friday, the Obama administration stressed that people should not "read too much" into the data. Mitt Romney's campaign pounced, and flagged the fact that the White House has repeated that same line nearly every month since November 2009. See below for the [...] |
'Urgent' message to Obama supporters: Time to donate Posted: 06 Jul 2012 12:05 PM PDT President Barack Obama says he's not worried about Mitt Romney's prodigious fundraising. But his campaign sounded the alarm Friday about the Republican standard-bearer's eye-popping $100 million haul in June and warned Democrats to open their wallets—before it's too late. "If we don't take this seriously now, we risk finding ourselves at a point where there [...] |
Jane Austen’s ring up for auction Posted: 06 Jul 2012 11:04 AM PDT It's a plot straight out of a Jane Austen novel. A family ring with a possible romantic history handed down and finally put up for auction. Except this is the real-life possession of the "Pride and Prejudice" author herself. Sadly for fans of the novelist, the price of the gold and turquoise bauble is worth [...] |

Posted: 06 Jul 2012 08:56 AM PDT Barack Obama may be the first president to write his way into the White House with his two autobiographies, but his first summer vacation as president did little to enhance his reputation as a bookish intellectual. During his one-week vacation on Martha's Vineyard in August 2009 (interrupted by Ted Kennedy's funeral), Obama played golf compulsively, worked in some half-court basketball, obsessed over his morning fitness routine, took on Michelle in tennis and went biking and swimming with his daughters. About all that were missing from this grueling athleticism were the Romney family sports of water-skiing and dressage. |
