According to the Turkish Prime Minister's office the number of Syrian refugees in Turkey stands at more than 8,500 people. As the government expands its crackdown on dissent, activists report tanks entering the northern town of Maaret al-Numan on Tuesday and other villages near Jisr al-Shughour.Syrian tanks pushed toward more towns near the Turkish and Iraqi borders, expanding the crackdown against a 12-week uprising to the north and east as more Syrians flee.
