Riot police attack Bahrain protesters; 2 dead

Bahraini anti-government demonstrators are seen camping out in protest at the Pearl roundabout in Manama, Bahrain, early Thursday morning, Feb. 17. The banner in Arabic reads, "No for political neutralization." The swelling protests against Bahrain's rulers gained momentum Wednesday with huge crowds calling for a sweeping political overhaul and the kingdom's stunned leaders appearing to shift tactics after attempts to crush the uprising stoked rage on the streets and sharp criticism from Western allies. Riot police are using tear gas and clubs to try to regain control of a main square in Bahrain's capital occupied by anti-government protesters. At least two people were  killed and an ABC reporter was beaten, according to media accounts.

25 lions rescued from Bolivia arrive in U.S.

A lion, one of 25 rescued from Bolivian circuses, roars at Animal Defenders International vice president Tim Phillips after being unloaded from a jet in Denver on Feb. 16. The lions were to be transferred to a Colorado wildlife sanctuary to live the rest of their lives. Twenty-five lions, most of them rescued from Bolivian circuses, were flown to Colorado on Wednesday to start their new lives at a wildlife sanctuary.
