Disabled girl was dismembered, stepmom says

Signs are attached to a tree Monday outside the home where 10-year-old Zahra Baker had lived with her father and stepmother in Hickory, N.C. Officials said Friday they found the disabled girl's remains. Lawyers for the stepmother of a disabled North Carolina girl say in court documents that the girl was dismembered.

Dr. Paul Davies, of Arizona State University, holds a book on Mars as he stands in the atrium of the Biodesign Institute building on the ASU campus. Davies is one of two scientists that are proposing we send volunteers to Mars and leave them there. Invoking the spirit of "Star Trek" in a scholarly article entitled "To Boldly Go," two scientists contend human travel to Mars could happen much more quickly and cheaply if the missions are made one-way. They argue that it would be little different from early settlers to North America, who left Europe with little expectation of return.
